Family Friendly Glacier Walk on Sólheimajökull.

Along the way to the glacier, we will have a good view of the glacier lagoon and the area around the glacier. We start with a safety briefing and a short lesson how to use the crampons and the ice pick on the glacier walk.

The glacial landscape is amazing and dynamic, including crevices, sinkholes and small black volcanic sandhills. Sometimes it’s possible to take a look at the small holes or enter the caves.

In winter the ice is blue and clear, the surface mostly covered by snow. During the summertime, the ice becomes more white and the volcanic ash which forms various patterns in the landscape is more visible.

The glacial landscape changes day by day which makes it even more interesting to see and explore. With the glacier melting very rapidly in recent years the landscape has become more exciting.

Sólheimajökull glacier is the ideal place to view geomorphology in formation and the effects of global warming on glaciers.

Amazing Snowmobile Adventure on Mýrdalsjökull Glacier

South Iceland is certainly spectacular from "below” but nothing tops experiencing it from "above” Our snowmobile tour goes to the top of Mýrdalsjökull glacier - an icecap covering one of Iceland’s largest volcano, Katla.

The snowmobile tour is perfect for those who are looking for a scenic fun ride on a glacier and want to explore the wilderness and breathtaking view over South Iceland. The length of the tour is suitable for first time riders.

The tour starts with a short briefing and dressing up at the main base. Next we board a real glacier truck and head up the mountain towards the glacier and the location of the snowmobiles. The snowmobile ride takes you to the top of Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

The tour starts at the Arcanum base. After gearing up and going over the tour plan and safety instruction we head down to the black sand and the coast line. On the way we cross a few small rivers. When we are down at the black sand we head across the coast line towards the old plane wreck. From there we drive across the black sand and return to the base.

This tour will give you the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent and unique landscape formed by the volcano Katla which now lies dormant under the icecap Mýrdalsjökull. Weather and visibility allowing, the great view to the glacier and along the coast line to Dyrhólaey can be enjoyed.

The tour starts with a briefing and safety instructions at the ARCANUM base nearby Mýrdalsjökull glacier in South Iceland.

From the base we head down to the black lava sands, crossing small rivers on the way. The black lava sand derives from previous glacial outbursts of the dormant volcano Katla.

Down at the black beach we stop and enjoy the amazing view up to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier (weather dependent) and along the coast to the southernmost part of Iceland, the small peninsula Dyrhólaey.

On we go along the coast to the famous aircraft wreck, from there we continue to the river Jökulsá and up to the foot of the mountain.

On the return ride we follow the mountain back to the base.

This tour gives you the opportunity to get in touch with the raw black lava sand landscape by the south coast, an unforgettable experience of conflicting landscapes where the nature envelopes the traveller in its warm embrace.

Hands down the fastest way to experience in Ice Cave in Iceland! If your trip is short and action-packed, seeing an ice cave may seem like it would be impossible for you to have on your agenda, but with us, it was never so easy! Our Katlatrack Team, will meet you at our meeting point in Vik Iceland. You will then embark on a beautiful and exciting super jeep ride to the secret area of one of our 13 glaciers (30-60 minute super jeep ride)! Once at the glacier area, you will borrow gear (IE, helmet, headlamp, and crampons) and our local guide will do an educational brief on safety, what to expect, etc. You’ll take a super fun walk to the glacier ice cave (5-10 minutes) and go inside to explore it. We will have a total of 45-60 minutes in the glacier area for photos and exploration.

There is also a 4 hour version of this tour with a visit to a private black sand beach.

We offer scenic riding tours on the beautiful black sand beach of Vík, South Iceland. Our Black Beach Riding Tour is approximately one-hour duration and we welcome riders of all abilities who are looking for a gentle ride in our stunning surroundings!

The tours are mostly walking speed with the opportunity to try some tölt, the special gait of the Icelandic horse. We will be happy to welcome you to our stable and give you an opportunity to meet the Icelandic horse!
