Day 1

Arrival in Iceland

Pickup by your guide from Keflavík Airport before 11am. On your way south to the Base Camp you will explore the Reykjanes peninsula, with many geothermal features. A stop for lunch on the way and some sightseeing gives you a taste of the Icelandic landscape and nature. If you have time (and energy!) after your arrival to the accommodation you could go to the fantastic LAVA Center in Hvolsvöllur, a few minutes walk from the Base Camp. It is an interactive and educational center about the volcanic activity that shapes Icelandic nature and culture, and is well worth a visit. After dinner you can relax in the hot tub on the roof of your accommodation, or go on a guided Northern Lights hunt (dependent on conditions), although on a very clear night the Aurora Borealis may even be visible from the hot tub!

Day 2

South Coast

Today you will explore the South Coast and get an up close experience with a glacier. Some of the possible stops along the way include Skógafoss waterfall, one of the most photographed falls in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk a path behind the cascade, a black sand beach, made of lava sand, Vík, Reynisfjara, and Dyrhólaey. These depend on timing and conditions, but your guide will make sure you have a fun day. Then in the afternoon you will visit Sólheimajökull glacier, where you have a fantastic glacier hike experience, with crampons provided for safety. Upon your return to the Base Camp it is recommended that you try out the local swimming pool, an outdoor, naturally heated pool with hot tubs and a sauna, before dinner is served at Base Camp. If you have an abundance of energy then there is the possibility of an evening activity - speak to the guides, however most people prefer to enjoy the hot tub or the bar, or head out on the Northern Lights hunt in good weather.

Day 3

Super Jeep Adventure

First on the agenda is Þórsmörk, the Valley of the Thunder God Thor. This beautiful landscape was shaped by a volcanic eruption underneath the glaciers, creating a unique scene. In this valley you will find the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which really put Iceland on the map when it erupted in 2010, halting air traffic worldwide. Explore the glacial outlet Gígajökull, where the first signs of the eruption took place. You will also hike around the Þórsmörk area, and the guide will tailor these hikes to your abilities and the amount of energy you have! After your dinner, as with the previous nights, you can swim, visit the LAVA Center, or even go on a bike tour around the Hvolsvöllur town and area. Again, if the forecast is good then the guides will head out with you on a Northern Lights hunt.

Day 4

Surprise day

Today is a surprise day, just like the weather in Iceland! If the conditions are fair, then you will head on your final adventure to the Reykjadalur geothermal valley, where you can bathe in the warm natural spring waters. If the weather is less favorable for these activities then you might head to the Golden Circle (Geysir, Gullfoss, and Þingvellir) or the Þjórsárdalur valley, although any of these choices will make for a lovely last day of the guided tour. The guides will then take you back to Reykjavík, where you are free to spend your time as you wish. We can give you advice on activities, and help you book optional extras, such as a visit to the Blue Lagoon (must be booked in advance), or city tours.
