Explore this modern Greenlandic town north of the Polar Circle and experience the unique Disko Bay: Calving glaciers and gigantic icebergs: Majestic Icebergs are situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Ice Fjord right outside the town and can be experienced at close range on our Midnight Cruises or during full day excursions where we cruise close to the impressive glacier of Eqi. Isolated Settlements: On other excursions we sail to small and remote settlements, where "the old world" and the Greenlandic hunters still live much according to ancient traditions.

Ilulissat is Greenlandic for ‘Icebergs’, and this charming town with 4600 inhabitants 200 kilometres north of the Polar Circle is indeed one of the best places in the world for seeing gigantic, nature-made sculptures break off rugged glaciers and start their final journey towards the open sea.

Summer in Ilulissat is a feast of adventures; make the most of your time there by going on hikes in the Arctic nature not far from town, experience helicopter safaris over the UNESCO designated ice fjord and sail out to remote settlements where everyday life still is heavily influenced by ancient traditions. Relax in the evenings on Midnight Sun Cruises in the fjord, watching the icebergs bathing in the rays of the never-setting sun, whilst enjoying a drink ‘on the real rocks’.

Even a short stay in Ilulissat offers plenty of opportunity to explore the Arctic country side, learn about ancient Inuit traditions and – of course – marvel at the icebergs by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Ice Fjord.

Depending on whether you take the 3, 4 og 5 day tour, you will have 1, 2 or 3 full days in Ilulissat to explore the area and take some amazing optional excursions. The first day is the travel from Reykjavík to Ilulissat, with a meet and greed and a city walk, and on the last day you take the flight back to Reykjavík after breakfast and a farewell coffee with the guide.

Day 1 Saturday

Air Iceland flight to Ilulissat. Icelandair flight from Reykjavik to Ilulissat.

Meet and greet by a guide, and transfer to the hotel for check in.

Welcome meeting at the hotel by your guide.

CITY WALK OF ILULISSAT
During a guided walk through town the guide
will tell the history of Ilulissat. We visit the old
part of town and see buildings from the very
start of the Danish trading station, the busy
fishing harbor, the old church and the museum
(entry included).

Duration about 1,5 hours including transfer.

Grade 1. Easy.

Day 2, (3 and 4)

In Ilulissat. Days at leisure for optional excursions. Being situated almost 400 km north of the Polar Circle you have a fantastic opportunity to discover more about daily life in the Arctic. Your guides can help organize home visits, gentle walks to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Icefjord or maybe you just wish to sit on the hotel balcony and watch the gigantic icebergs float by!
