Arrival and the Borgarfjörður Region

Arrival at Keflavik airport. Pick up the car and drive to Borgarfjörður area and stay there the first night. This is around 2 hours drive from the airport.

You can visit the Settlement Centre in Borgarnes and learn about the life of the Vikings and drive to the Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls; very special waterfalls that flow out from the lava on banks of the river Hvitá. You can also take a short hiking tour on the Grábrók mountain.
Overnight stay in the area.

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Drive from Borgarfjörður to the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
This is sometimes called mini Iceland and is a great inspiration for writers and photographers. The Snæfellsnes glacier is the setting for Jules Vernes “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.
Stay in the picturesque north of Snæfellsnes for one day before heading to the north of Iceland. If you want to explore the region, you can stay one more night and and extend the total length of the tour.

Akureyri, the capital of the North and Lake Mývatn

Drive to the North Country through the Skagafjörður region to Akureyri. From Akureyri continue to Mývatn. You might want to stay 2 nights in the North East.

Along the east fjords to the south country

Drive east to the town of Egilsstaðir, and to the rugged coastline of the east fjords, with their towering mountains and small charming villages. Overnight stay in the east fjords region, either near the town of Egilsstaðir, or in one of the small coastal villages of the East Fjords.

Vatnajökull glacier and the south

Drive south of the Vatnajökull Glacier, visiting the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and the Skaftafell National Park area. A boat tour on the Glacier Lagoon is a must (summer). Zodiac boat tours need to be booked. Often seals are playing on the beach or swimming in the lake.

There are some very good hiking trails in the Skaftafell National Park.
Close by is Skaftafell National Park, renowned for hiking paths, glacier walks and snowmobile tours.

The South Coast, Glaciers and Waterfalls

Drive along the south coast, enjoy the view to the many glaciers, including the famous Eyjafjallajökull, and stop at the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls.

An option is to take a Super Jeep tour to the Eyjafjallajökull area, which erupted 3 years ago. The Lava is still hot and you will see the aftemath of the eruption the 2 new mountains Magni and Móði. This tour has been much praised by all our clients.

The Golden Circle

Drive to Gullfoss waterfalls and on to the Geysir geo-thermal area. You might want to take an optional snowmobile tour on the Langjökull Glacier.
Accommodation in the Golden Circle area, or the central south.

Drive to Reykjavik and stay there for one night.

Reykjavík

If you leave in the afternoon you can spend the morning in Reykjavik.

REYKJAVÍK is the northern most capital city in the world. Lined with colorful, corrugated steel buildings, the streets in the downtown area are very pedestrian-friendly and full of fascinating museums, quaint shops, and cozy cafes. Spend the morning exploring the city at your leisure and then head back to Keflavík airport.
